About China and the Yangste river
With over 5000 years of continuous history, China is the oldest civilisation in the world. Prior to the 19th century, China was ruled by successive empires and dynasties. However, due to social, political and economic instability it missed the industrial revolution and was weakened by civil war and revolution in the 20th Century. In 1949 the Chinese civil war ended and gave way to a communist country led by Mao Zedong. The climate of China varies greatly because of its vast and large landscape.

The north can experience hot daytime temperatures of around 30°C and arctic temperatures during the winter, whilst central China has a moderate temperature system. The southern zone has a subtropical climate with hot summers and much milder winters. Due to the enormous range in environmental elements China posses a vast range of flora and fauna. Such native species include the Giant Panda, Chinese Alligator, Siberian Tiger, the Snub-Nosed Monkey and Golden Pheasant.
