Mission
Society needs entrepreneurial spirit applied to
wealth creation with ethical consideration of communities and the environment. This programme is
designed to mentor and facilitate social entrepreneurship, to be an incubator for 'agents of change'.
The skills developed can be applied to any business
environment and will inevitably produce more
rounded individuals.
Each prospective social entrepreneur receives three
months 'incubation' in Tenerife, the AWF project
development hub. They have access to the internet,
phone and mentoring support for the development
of business plans, marketing and fundraising strategies etc. Sustainability has to be built into their
project planning and the AWF gives support to cover
all overheads including a personal stipend for the
first year after which they should be self-sufficient.
There is a huge array of enterprises that fall within
the remit of 'social', from environmental and conservation initiatives, eco-tourism, alternative technologies, media and design work to education, business
development and many aspects of social anthropology, giving value to cultural knowledge.
