About the Models & Photographs
The Conservation Calendar is designed to raise awareness of what is happening to our environment- volunteers, models, photographers, venues all gave their time and effort free of charge and all profits will go to the WhaleFund, itself designed to fund ordinary people getting involved in making a difference, you!

Theme: Oil Pollution
Concept: Everyone can picture birds covered in oil following an oil spill, desperately trying to escape but destined for a slow and agonising death. The angel, its wings covered in oil and unable to fly awaits death and looks to God for an explanation…

Model: Charlotte Collins lives in Tenerife and is fluent in Spanish and English. Enthusiastic about supporting conservation, she is aged 19yrs.



Theme: Anchors
Concept: The siren struggles to remove an anchor, one of the contributors to coral reef destruction, but has not the strength. The solution to this problem, as with many others, has to come from us.

Model: Viridiana Jimenez, undergraduate of marine biology and AWF volunteer is fluent in Spanish, French and English and was brought up in the USa. She is passionate about conservation and wants to make a difference – she conceived this image and organised the whole thing.


Theme: Nets
Concept: Whales and dolphins are mammals, like us, and need to breathe air- nets keep them trapped under water and they drown, just as this beautiful girl here has done.

Model: Stefania is 23 and Italian. She speaks four languages – Italian, English, Spanish and French, is a nurse and would like to become a paramedics. She think we are on a precipice of a change and we could go one way or the other, so it’s important to do something now before it is too late. She wants to experience everything life has to offer. Theme: Whale Hunting
Concept: The great whales are on the verge of extinction and yet we still accept and condone their continued hunting- what is the girl thinking as she looks out to an empty ocean.

Theme: Global Warming
Concept: The beautiful girl is on an empty beach, melting in a growing heat- is this the future we have created for ourselves?

Theme: Noise Pollution
Concept: The girl in her own space but vulnerable, is bombarded by noise and has to cover her hears for protection- is this fair?

Theme: Boat Impacts
Concept: The girl is beached, killed by a ferry as many whales and dolphins are, neglected and unimportant.

Theme: Captivity

Concept: Is there any difference between slavery, reducing other human beings to an inferior state and captivity, depriving animals of a natural life in the wild for our profit and amusement.

Model: Sari Mather is a 23 year old fashion design graduate earns a living dancing and is keen on action sports. She is keen to support conservation and protect nature and honoured to be part of the calendar project.


Theme: Habitat Destruction
Concept: Life surrounded by death, clinging to something that can no longer sustain us- what future do we have.

Theme: Plastic Waste
Concept: Plastic waste seems small and innocuous and yet kills millions of animals every year. So easy for us to stop and yet we do nothing. A beautiful girl lies dead- what a waste.

Model: Bonita Mitchell: Studying for her A levels, Bonita has assisted the AWF for several years in translation, interpretation work and with special needs education groups. Fluent in Spanish and English she has a strong interest in marine conservation and plans to go on to study either psychology or physiotherapy at university.


Theme: Long line Fishing
Concept: Feel the pain of tens of thousands of animals killed by accident every year through long line fishing- do we have any pity?

Theme: Key Stone Species

Concept: Many species are pivotal to whole eco-systems- destroy it and all around dies. One domino falls and they all do. Look into the girls eyes- what are you going to do now!?
