WhaleFund
"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has."
                                                                                             Margaret Mead

The WhaleFund is designed to bring together ordinary people working across the world to conserve nature, the environment and communities under threat - to enable people to promote their own grassroot projects and to show where individuals can make a difference, either in volunteering their time, helping in campaigning, acquiring resources or providing funding. People to people, no government, no bureaucracy, no organisations but, rather, a growing global network of ordinary people wanting to make a difference.

WAYS IN WHICH WE CAN ALL SUPPORT PROJECTS

Key elements of the database will be absolute internet based transparency in receipt and expenditure; absolutely no administration costs; democracy in decision making in the allocation of funds generated particularly in young people coming through the whale foundation projects

Funding will come from various sources: a percentage of volunteer and eco tourist revenues, donations from the whale watching tourists, sale of merchandise- calendar, t shirts and posters etc and, also from private donations either to the general fund or direct to individual projects. Key to the operation of the fund will be matching donations to projects in an open and democratic way.

Projects on the database will come from a variety of sources. Where the project is known directly by the Foundation team or its volunteers it will be denoted by an A and where it is forwarded to us by someone known to us by the letter B. Where we have no direct knowledge of the projects by a letter C.

It will be driven in the main by young volunteers, by their idealism and integrity, not by money or ambition…..and it will help to make the world a better place.

Database

We are particularly keen to encourage and support positive action and the research base at Arona on the island of Tenerife will be open as a free resource to teams/ individuals to use in planning their actions and projects. Details: edb@whalenation.org
