Hanoi is a bustling, creative and energetic city and the village communities from which we operate are charming and friendly. The AWF focus will be in helping local entrepreneurs establish themselves, in safeguarding cultural knowledge , in education and particularly in the English language, and in conservation and farming.

Normal AWF rates apply
Pounds/ Euro 110pw for stays of four weeks or more (dearer for shorter stays- see booking form), includes multi bedded and simple accommodation. Volunteers work on a variety of projects but can focus on areas of specific interest for such as dissertations. See booking form for all information on booking. Participants must check out their own national guidelines regarding entry visas and inoculations. ALL volunteers must provide evidence of comprehensive medical insurance covering repatriation in worst case scenario.

Projects 2012
The AWF is based in the charming village of Dai Kat in a traditional and very beautiful stone built house. The accommodation has eight 8 beds, a large office and fantastic gardens. Bicycles are provided and the village of Dai Cat is only minutes from the house. Food will be supplied although the accommodation is self catering and volunteers will cook for themselves- the local village restaurant is very close and Hanoi is 45 minute away by bus. Airport transfers will be charged at £25 each way.

The project manager is Khai. He lives in the village with his wife and extended family- this is a very close knit community. The village is famous for flower production and it supplies the flower needs of the capital, Hanoi.

Volunteers will work in several areas:
A. Teaching in the village- English language (three age ranges plus adult class), Mathematics, Environment

B. Film making with a focus on social anthropology- Stories from the culture, myths and legends etc

C. Farming on the local flower farms

D. Micro finance and Trading- There is huge potential to help local craftspeople and traders access global markets and facilities will be made available.

E. Local courses are available for young people and we aim to facilitate our volunteers accessing these programmes :
1. 'Morals' (Six hours pw for six months)

2. 'Girl behaviour' (Two sessions of two weeks over two months) instruction in how to behave as a young girl!

4. Vietnamese Culture

F. Plant a Tree, Fund a Dream programme to be set up in Dai Kat

G. The AWF will be developing a number of conservation based programmes during Summer 2012 - Tigers and Elephants in the Central Highlands, Primates nearer Hanoi, and Birds throughout the country. Volunteers will help in this process.

H. Muong Hill peoples. The AWF will be renting a stilted house in a Muong Hill Tribe village and volunteers will have the option to stay there and help record the customs and traditions of these amazing peoples. Whilst in the village, volunteers will be live and work alongside the villagers, experiencing a different way of life in truly beautiful surroundings.

About Vietnam
Vietnam has a wide variety of climates and environments. It is considered one of the 25 most bio diverse countries in the world. 42% percent of Vietnam's total land mass is covered in tropical forests. It is home to an abundance of flora and fauna species including the highly endangered Saola, a forest dwelling bovine species native to Vietnam and one of the world's rarest mammals. Vietnam's main agriculture is centred around wet rice cultivation. Tourism also plays an enormous part in Vietnam's economy with a significant increase over the past 10 years.
