AWF Volunteer Projects

AWF Core Programmes

Whales and Dolphins   The SHOP
The hub of the AWF's global network of projects, is it's whale and dolphin programme in Tenerife. Volunteers spend three days each week as research guides and two days on their own individual projects.

Our volunteers are bringing together products from across our project bases on four continents and, by buying any of these, we can all support local communities - and nature- globally.
Marine Habitat Surveys   London Eco Film Festival
Are you looking to a career in marine conservation or related areas? If so, experience and acquired skills are everything.

We are currently accepting submissions for this year’s inaugural London Film Festival, which will transfer to Europe later in the autumn- Utrecht, Dublin.
Sri Lanka Asian Elephants   Dragonfly Project
The AWF has formed a collaboration with the Millennium Elephant Foundation in Sri Lanka where we will be developing conservation, education and research initiatives throughout Asia.

We have a mother. We have sisters. We have aunts. We have cousins. We have grandmothers. They are all women who we love and care for. A Place for Women is an AWF programme creating centres for women to help them to achieve their dreams.
Romania   Big Whale Project
Romania is an ancient country, with its people tracing their routes to the Celtic tribe- the Dacia- who ruled in the country before the Romans came and gave it its name some two thousand year ago.

“It seems to me that the natural world is the greatest source of excitement; the greatest source of visual beauty; the greatest source of intellectual interest. It is the greatest source of so much in life that makes life worth living.”
Ireland   Expedition Society
Kerry, in the west of Ireland is an ancient land, stunningly beautiful in a way that only old Celtic landscapes steeped in thousands of years of history and human emotion can conjure. It is a land truly touched by the hand of God;

Indonesia   Autism
This is a unique opportunity to experience life in the rainforest whilst protecting a rich and diverse habitat supporting a variety of species including several primates.

Autistic children see the world in a different way to ordinary children, just as no doubt dolphins see
the world in a different way.
Vietnam   The Genesis Project
We have two project bases in Vietnam, in Hanoi and the other situated in a Muong village in Hai Phong. We have a full range of projects from enterprise creation to social anthropology, from conservation to education.

The AWF's "Plant a Tree, Fund a Dream" programme is planting trees on project sites across the globe. £1000 plants 100,000 tree's and pays for 100 childrens' education for a whole year.
London   Save the Whales
The AWF has taken more office space in Covent Garden, London overlooking St Martins in the Fields and Trafalgar Square.

In March 2012, volunteers with the AWF agreed a strategy with regard to whales and dolphins to work towards over 2012/2013.
Sierra Leone   Non-Volunteering Activities
We have formed a new collaboration with a locally based eco-tourism operation which will provide a more co-ordinated experience for our volunteers and a stronger operating base for our programmes in the country.

The AWF is not just about volunteering! It also creates interesting opportunities for all to get involved in ways that help our environment and our peoples in the process.
