2020 has been a great challenge to many. We have managed to stay open throughout the year but at great cost, as our numbers were drastically reduced and safety protocols expensive to implement. We have, however, set up a private boat based research initiative - monitoring cetaceans in Tenerife exclusively for our volunteers; introduced acoustics work into our research programme; pioneered a land based research station to monitor more effectively cetacean-boat interactions; and developed a range of educational courses to help people build their skill sets, and CVs, with real experience based learning programmes.
2021 is the year we thrive. We want to bring people back together to make up for the lost time in 2020 and therefore, we will be discounting our programmes for next Summer (June - September inclusive) because we think everyone deserves some good after all of the bad!

London Eco Film Festival 2021
In 2020/21, COVID-19 has impacted different communities in very different ways. COVID-19 is divisive, not only in its physical impact on different sections of society- black and other ethnic minorities, the poor, the disadvantaged, the old etc. but also its financial impact and, critically for society, in perceptions of how society has responded to it.
This year the London Eco Film Festival will have a special COVID-19 focus, on the impact of the pandemic on Ordinary Lives: Stories of Survival and Heroism and Leadership. Visit the London Eco Film Festival page for more information. |

Volunteer with Whales and Dolphins in Tenerife
Tenerife, in the Canary Islands, is a truly outstanding location for the observation of free-living whales. There are 4 resident species which can be observed on perhaps 80% of the days of the year, including short-finned Pilot Whales and Bottlenose Dolphins. There is also a total of 24 other species migrating through Canarian waters at different times of the year, including Blue Whales, Humpback Whales and Killer Whales.
Our Volunteering Programme will give you the perfect opportunity to learn more about these fascinating creatures and gain valuable experience in conservation Find our more about our volunteering opportunities |

Art & Nature, Reconnecting Youth to Nature through Art; Creating Global Citizens
This is a brand new programme for 2020. Based on years of teaching we want to give young people, in the UK and Globally, the skills they need to become Global Citizens.
A Global Citizen is someone who is aware of and understands the wider world - and their place in it. They take an active role in their community, and work with others to make our planet more equal, fair and sustainable. For the Fair Earth Foundation, Global Citizenship is all about encouraging people of all ages to develop the knowledge, skills and values they need to engage with the world. And it's about the belief that we can all make a difference. For more information, email us today! |
Virtual Volunteering
Virtual Volunteering is becoming an incredible outlet for those that are currently in lockdown around the world, and also those that for some reason don't have the ability to volunteer in person. If you normally don't have time to go and volunteer locally or are looking for something worthwhile to do whilst also building transferable skills such as data analysis, helping others, or taking part in research then virtual volunteering is definitely one for you!
You can give as much or as little time as you want! Read visit our Virtual Volunteering page to find out how to get involved, whilst still making a difference around the world. |

Research
For 25 years, the AWdF have led the development of science-based research and conservation efforts on the whales and dolphins in Canarian waters and our long-term dataset is uniquely valuable for understanding how to monitor these cetaceans. The methods and approaches to our work on Canarian cetaceans is now being extended to many other locations across the Atlantic.
We have extensive data on tens of thousands of interactions with cetaceans over the years and a large number of research questions that we need help on in analysing. If you want to help us and learn about writing and presenting scientific research papers then contact our Research Coordinator and we will make available a list of research questions, suggest literature reviews, make accessible data sets and photo ID catalogues and support you in analysing the data and writing up reports/ posters. For more information, please download our Virtual Research Factsheets.

Ecotourism Tenerife
Ecotourism embraces tourism such as cultural, gastronomic, sports, educational and rural elements all benefiting local communities. In addition to the particular tourism focus there is the added element of staying within local communities and eating locally, such that the tourism income is spent locally. This enhances the holiday through the added cultural dimension and provides for a much more in depth experience.
As a not-for-profit organisation our goal is to create fantastic experiences steeped in nature and culture where the commercial benefit goes to the local community. Respect for local people, local knowledge, learning and appreciation are all key aspects of what we do.

Fair Trade
To help disadvantaged communities, which includes artisan producers in the UK and Europe, access the ‘global market’.
We see the global market as ordinary communities in the developed world and we see the challenge as linking the two sets of communities together through truly fair trade. For our part, we can introduce artisan products to a broader community through garden shows but our vision is that through the webpages and through the people we interact with, our broader community, we can inspire and facilitate others to carry our work further- from enjoying a holiday with the communities we buy from to getting their friends to join them or buy from our website or, indeed, from having ideas to take our vision further themselves in which case we will do everything in our power to support them. This is our vision - helping to nurture a growing community of like-minded individuals and organisations collaborating with communities around the world helping to enrich all of our lives through education, knowledge, cooperation , endeavour and achievement; all working towards a fairer earth and becoming part of the change that we all want to see. Visit our Fair Trade website today! |
