citizen science

Citizen Science is the collaboration between members of the public and researchers to carry out scientific projects and collect information for ongoing studies. As part of its mission of protecting our oceans through science and advocacy, Atlantic Whale and Dolphin Foundation engages in a number of citizen science initiatives.

These initiatives not only build awareness of key issues relating to marine conservation and wildlife protection, they also promote a greater commitment to creating positive change.

For our citizen science projects, we train volunteers from diverse backgrounds to collect data which supplements the research being conducted by our scientists and research team. This crowdsourcing approach enhances the capacity of our research efforts and serves as a means of engaging the public in science.
