Fundraising can be a daunting prospect, but it can be a lot of fun, and every penny you raise for the AWdF will be spent well. Whether you are raising money to attend our volunteer programs or to support the ongoing work of the charity, we wish you luck!
Before you start fundraising, it’s important to have a realistic fundraising goal in mind. Whether you have lots of experience, or are fundraising for the very first time, you’ll quickly discover that having a carefully thought-out plan can help you to reach your fundraising goals much more quickly.
Plan Your Fundraising
Whoever you’re raising money for, having a clear idea of how to achieve your target is crucial. A fundraising plan will provide clarity and a good understanding of both your short and long-term goals. It’ll help you make the most of your time and understand exactly how much effort you’ll need to put in. This will help you to stay motivated and on-track with your fundraising objectives.
Fundraising Ideas
Your plan should include a range of ideas so as many people as possible have a chance to support you. You can divide it into short-term and longer term ideas, depending on how long you have to reach your target.
To help you reach your fundraising target, we’ve come up with some great ideas to get you started:
For your fundraising efforts to be successful they should inspire your supporters to donate. Think about activities that people will respond to, engage with and share your fundraising photos on social media and please tag us! After all, fundraising campaigns are far more successful when they support causes people care about.
Make the Most of Donations
There are many ways to collect sponsorship, for example through Just Giving or donate direct to the charity via the DonorBox at the bottom of this page.
Don’t forget to ask them to claim Gift Aid on their donations, if they’re eligible.
Most importantly, remember to have fun and enjoy your fundraising. After all, no matter how much or how little you raise, your fundraising really does have the ability to change lives.
Consider health, safety and the law
Here are a few important points you might need to consider:
Make your event as environmentally friendly as possible
For example, please think carefully before using items which can harm animals and the environment, such as plastic bags and balloons. You can also make the event more environmentally friendly by lift sharing and ensuring you recycle whenever you can.

Here are a few important points you might need to consider:
- It’s really important that all safety aspects are thought about carefully, as the AWdF cannot be held responsible for any accidents or incidents that occur as a result of your activity
- To make sure you’re really safe you can contact your local council, or The Health and Safety Executive (www.hse.gov.uk) if you have any questions about holding events on public premises such as a school or workplace
- For first aid advice, contact your local St John’s Ambulance branch or the British Red Cross
- You may also need to check about certain laws, licences or permissions, particularly if you’re organising a raffle, street collection or event on private property
- To find out more you can contact the local council office and The Institute of Fundraising (www.institute-of-fundraising.org.uk)
- If you are selling food and drink at a fundraising event, it is best to check food safety laws. Visit www.food.gov.uk for more information
- If you are selling alcohol you will need to obtain a licence, and if it will be given as a prize you must make sure the recipient is over 18 and has a valid ID
