Lydney, Gloucerstershire, UK 2019 2-month placement 'After finishing my Diploma earlier this year in Travel and Tourism , before adult life I wanted to look into and experience the world through a different eye so when this opportunity was awarded to me on my last visit to the AWdF as a volunteer I couldn't say no. This was a point between where I wasn’t sure what career I wanted to pursue and looking where I wanted to build this career so i thought starting by spending my summer in Tenerife was perfect. Then being able to be involved in Marine Conservation at the same time is so rewarding and heart warming in itself, just knowing I am helping to make a difference as well as enjoying myself at the same time. While I'm here I will be getting a real world experience and gain a whole new perspective, make an impact and learn new skills I will have forever.' Nomi Ahmad
Manchester, UK 2019 2-month placement 'As an individual, I have always been very eco-friendly minded being from a younger age and have always encouraged others to be the same in an effort to create less landfill rubbish. When I heard about AWdF and their ambitious goal of banning single use plastic, along with many other projects side by side, I was very interested and really wanted to be a part of this. After arriving, I have been a part of Project Plastic from day one which involves being on whale and dolphin watching boats and gathering signatures to ban single use plastic.' Max Skipsey
Gloucestershire 2019 2-month placement 'The reason I am out in Tenerife with AWDF is because if one person can do a good thing it is one more good person helping the world and I care about our world and everything on it and everything needs a helping hand. I plan to climb Mount Teide in a dolphin costume to help raise money for the charity.' Shannon Cairns London, England 2019 2-month placement 'I chose to volunteer in Tenerife this summer because I came last year and loved both going on the boats and visiting the local dog shelter! I hoped this year to find out more about migratory aquatic species, as well as, invest more time at K9 Kennels and focus my project around a dog adoption and breed awareness campaign, which I was able to do.' Kristina Vilimaite London, England - born in Lithuania 2019 2-month placement 'Since, I was very young I have felt like I have this higher calling and special purpose on this earth and this is because I am not interested in the corporate world and if I had a chance I would like to dedicate my life towards my education and saving this planet. I dream of the impossible by craving adventure and setting my sights on new horizons by realising my vision towards making a change. Today’s integration and its ideals of human culture and high levels of inequality is a strong motivation for me to contribute to a better development of education, materials and the environment. Living in a world ruled by social media, fame and money, creates a negative environment and majority of people forget the environment they are surrounded by. Therefore, it is important to remember what really matters, so to be able to help people, start making a difference in people’s lives and make the world a better place. This is human revolution.' Susanne Collins
Sussex, England 2019 2-month placement 'I’m in Tenerife because as an ocean science student I’m passionate about marine conservation. I love knowing that at AWDF I am contributing to the research and conservation of dolphins and whales.' Tobias Kauer
Austrian 2017-2018 One year placement 'I feel really excited! I hope to meet a lot of new interesting people from all over the world, improve my Spanish, get a lot of experience in film-making and explore the beauty of the Canary islands.' |
Personal project: Raising Awareness and helping overcome plastic pollution
To make my personal successful it could be to just help educate one more person be more aware of the damage and effects Plastic Pollution causes our oceans i would be happy. I want to start by pushing to reach our goal of 1 Million signatures for Earth Day by inspiring the volunteers to help me achieve this as without their help and hard work it wouldn’t get anywhere. However, my main idea is to set up a program on going in to the public and getting a bigger insight on what the rest of the world know about what's happening, I will be recording things like ages and location for statistics of what type of people are more aware and what they already know then look in to what they would like to find out how to create a personal pack and send it to them so that they can be fully informed so they continue to spread the word on if we don't act now then there may not be anything to act on at all. The importance of all life is important to me, I don't see why we feel the need to damage one another's home for themselves. Personal project : ‘Captured, not Rescued’
My personal project “Captured, Not Rescued” consist of a team of four members. There are three EVS placement volunteers, which includes myself, and one other volunteer who have come together to create an amazing team where we are campaigning against captive dolphins within parks where the use of them is purely to generate business and make money. Alongside this, we have created a leaflet which outlines the negative points of dolphin captivity whilst promoting dolphin watching boats in the wild, in their original habitat. To finish off our project, we have organised a protest and petition to spread awareness which we are all equally happy and proud of here at AWdF. Personal project: "Educating the World"
My personal project is all about education as humans we have the power to education each other. This has helped us to live Longer life’s have amazing technology at our fingertips. But we also have way too much power we single handedly are killing millions of species of animals around the world and are forcing animals to tiny pools of water expecting them to put on a show. The power we hold and the good we can do my be what we are telling are children and the people that will be living on the planet long after we are gone. Personal project: K9NNEL (dog adoption campaign)
Personal project : ‘Captured, not Rescued’ Education transforms lives and I want to be part of it. My personal project ‘Captured, not rescued’ is about showing that captivity in small tanks is detrimental for highly social and intelligent dolphins. Alongside with other 2 co-ordinators our action campaign is to fight against existing dolphinariums to end captivity and educate the public about the harm to these marine species caused by captivity. We are a proud project of AWdF. Personal project : ‘Captured, not Rescued’
I'm participating in a project I set up with two other EVS placement volunteers that focuses on promoting ethical whale watching boats, which we collect our data on, and trying to end the cruel captivity of dolphins in marine parks by public outreach and protests. I coordinated the Creative Media work and my personal brief included the following:
